Launching Making The Difference. Podcast

Finally, after what has felt like many, many months I am launching my new podcast Making The Difference. Consisting of conversations with leaders from around the globe who are solving complex problems, this is my opportunity to explore how they reach their vision, how they see their strategy and how they make a difference.

Episode 1. You’ll get to meet Daoud Nassar, a Christian Palestinian who runs Tent of Nations, a farm which also acts as a peace and reconciliation centre, and a pioneer in environmental innovation. Committed to a vision that he realises is may not happen in his lifetime, this is an extraodinary insight into leadership, big visions and small action. Hope is a very current theme.

Episode 2. Helen Chambers has already made a very impactful stamp on the Scottish landscape, as co-founder of the multi-million pound venture philanthropy charity, Inspiring Scotland. Heads up, I used to work for them. Helen headed up strategy and discusses how her earlier years in Scottish Government enabled her to become a big systems thinker and ‘brokercrat’ that helps her to really think about how to solve Scotland’s key issues.

Episode 3. Staying in Scotland I meet with Jimmy Wilson, CEO of Fare in the East End of Glasgow. With some very real issues of poverty across the whole community, Jimmy’s leadership has seen the organisation grow to service all ages and stages of Easterhouse. We explore how his military past has helped informed him of his leadership style and strategy, what happens when you don’t have a strategy (it’s not good!), and imposter syndrome.

Episode 4. Ben Valks is a man on a mission to reforest a substantial part of the Amazon rainforest. Having spent 5 years collecting evidence, Ben’s strategy is now focused on using that evidence to bring farmers and local scientists onboard to make his vision happen. As he says, it is not just fire in the belly that keeps him going - it is fire everywhere.

Episode 5. Karen Leigh Anderson is the foremost expert on legal structures of social enterprise in the UK. WIth a background in large corporates and start-up tech, Karen has supported start-up incubators at Cambridge Judge Business School and has a deep understanding of the strategic thinking required even before you open your doors. We discuss legal structures, entreprenuership and having a 100 year vision.
